How to pay

All of our work is carried out under the Legal Help scheme. Legal Help is the new name for legal aid. It enables people with little, or no income, access to high quality legal advice.

Can I get it?

To use legal services paid for by the legal help scheme, you must be "financially eligible". We can tell you if you're eligible or not, so contact us now to find out. However, if you would like some more information, please read on.

If you receive income support or pension credit, you may automatically qualify. Similarly, if you receive jobseekers allowance, you may also automatically qualify.

If you don't claim these benefits, a calculation is used to decide if you qualify. This calculation takes into account your disposable income (money you have left after paying all of your living expenses) and your disposable capital (property and savings etc). If you have a partner, we will also take into account their disposable income and capital.

Other

The legal help scheme is run by the Legal Services Commission, a public body sponsored by the Ministry of Justice. It includes an online calculator, which will tell you if you qualify for legal help or not.
